Sept. 19, 1871. Hon. C. Delano, Secretary of the Interior Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th inst. relative to frauds practised by certain parties upon Indians and their lands in Michigan—and, in reply, to inform you that I have this day instructed the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan to at once proceed against the parties engaged in such frauds, and endeavor, to the full extent of his powers, to bring them to justice.
