Oct. 11, 1871. Hon. Geo. S. Boutwell, Secretary of the Treasury. Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge through your reference the receipt of a letter addressed to you under date of the 7th inst. by George H. Elliott, Major of Engineers, and Engineer Secretary to the Light House board, relative to the acquiring of a title to a Light House site on Danfuskie Island, S. C., and to inform you that instructions have this day been given to the Attorney of the U.S. for the District of South Carolina to render such professional assistance to Capt T. C. Hains, the Light House engineer at Charleston, as may be necessary in the premises. Very respectfully, B. H. Bristow, Solicitor Gen'l & Acting Attorney Gen'l.
