Oct. 13, 1871. Hon. Hamilton Fish, Secretary of State. Sir: I am directed by the President to request you to issue a commission appointing Wm. McMichael to be Assistant Attorney General of the United States, in place of Thomas H. Talbot, resigned. This commission to be dated the 15th instant. Very respectfully, B. H. Bristow, Solicitor Gen'l & Acting Attorney Gen'l.
