Oct. 30, 1871. Hon. Hamilton Fish, Secretary of State. Sir: I am directed by the President to request you to issue a commission to take effect on the 1st promixo, appointing Charles C. Beaman, Jr. to the office of Examiner of Claims, in place of E. Peshine Smith, Esq., resigned. Very respectfully, &c. A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
