Sir:
I have received your letter of the 7th instant, requesting that proper professional defence be furnished by this Department to the Hon. E. A. Rollins, late Commissioner of Internal Revenue, in the suit now pending against him at Baltimore, in favor of John M. Binckley.
I have directed Archibald Stirling, Jr. Esq. the U.S. Attorney for Maryland to appear for the defence, and will thank you to communicate this information to Mr. Rollins.
