Nov. 11, 1871. Hon. Hamilton Fish, Secretary of State. Sir: I am directed by the President to request you to issue a commission appointing James N. Kerns, to the office of Marshal of the U.S. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, in place of E. M. Gregory, deceased. Very respectfully, &c. A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
