Dec. 1, 1871. Hon. Hamilton Fish, Secretary of State. Sir: In answer to a letter from Mr. Hunter, Acting Secretary of State, dated the 29th ultimo, inquiring concerning instructions from this Department to the District Attorney of Dakota, I have the honor to enclose a copy of my letter of instructions sent to Warren Cowles, Esq. District Attorney of Dakota, on the 15th ultimo. Very respectfully, &c. A. T. Akerman, Attorney General.
