Dec. 5, 1871. Hon. Geo. S. Boutwell, Secretary of the Treasury. Sir: Referring to your letter of the 24th ultimo in relation to the delay of the District Attorney for Maine to investigate the title to land in Castine, I have the honor to transmit herewith a copy of a letter on the subject received from the District Attorney.
