Dec. 18, 1871. Hon. M. H. Carpenter, U.S. Senate. Dear Sir: Are the legal proceedings in reference to the canal at Duluth ended? I ask this because Mr. Davis, the District Attorney, has sent in his bill for compensation; and it is important that I should know whether his services are completed. Very truly yours, A. T.
