Editorial note: Based on the handwriting, Edward Grier dates this manuscript to before 1860 (Notebooks and Unpublished Prose Manuscripts [New York: New York University Press, 1984], 4:1316). The content is suggestive of the poem "Salut au Monde!" which was first published as "Poem of Salutation" in the 1856 edition of Leaves of Grass.
