Editorial note: Based on the handwriting, Edward Grier dates this manuscript scrap to before 1860 (Notebooks and Unpublished Prose Manuscripts [New York: New York University Press, 1984], 4:1336). It is possible that the manuscript is related to the poem that would later be titled "Recorders Ages Hence," first published as "Calamus 10" in the 1860 edition of Leaves of Grass.
