Sunday, April 13, 1890

Went down to W.'s about 10. The day exquisitely clear and mild. W.'s room shut—in bed yet. Learning I was there, he sent down for me. He received me cordially, apologizing for "the closeness of the room"—not markedly so—"as I must screen myself from draughts of whatever character." Said: "I have spent a fine night—slept well—spent the best night for a long while: and now I feel so refreshed, I determine to take the leap. You can so report me." (As I did, later on, to the President and Miss Lanigan.)

W. said, "Tom Donaldson was in Friday night, after you left."
