I at 5.40 on my way home. W. on bed asleep, but waking, spoke a while with me; looked very bad—said he had spent "two horrible days""but now I am better—have eaten something this afternoon for the first time."

Asked after "news." Then advised me to take the cemetery deed to Tom, saying afterward however: "You are sure he has the will? Suppose you bring it up to me some day—I should like to look at it: shall only want it for a glance. Of course Tom's office is the right place for these things."

Did not prolong talk. Mrs. Davis thinks W. perceptibly growing weaker—as, indeed, does he himself,—complaining, as he does, of pains in knees and ankles.
