Things not looking up in a way to cheer me.
Talked with Harned about the idea of having the birthday dinner at his house, using the parlor, and all hands to chip in for costs. Brinton's idea, too. T. quite acquiescing—pleased. W.'s condition so uncertain, [it seems] inadvisable to go to formal preparations.
