Originally titled "Looking-Glass" and numbered 82 and revised by overwriting to 83. The
poem remained unchanged and with the same title since its first appearance in the
1860 edition. This poem was titled but ungrouped until 1881, when
Whitman finally placed it in the cluster "By the Roadside."
